Objectives and results of the action: The project “Local accountable and transparent government” aimed to increase transparency and good governance in the work of local government units, to promote their cooperation with civil society organizations, as well as to provide insight into the functioning of local communities through analysis of current situation and prepare recommendations for improving the work of local governments.

Actually, these are key areas for further development of democracy and citizen participation in political life within their local communities.

Through survey, ADI provided citizens with simple insight into the transparency and functioning of their local government. The findings of the survey were available to all citizens, officials of local government units, media, researchers and other stakeholders. Besides collecting data, the aim of this project is to establish standards and criteria for evaluation of transparency and good governance of the work of local government units, which should serve as a guide for themselves to improve their way of working and communication with citizens.

In this context through a series of public debates and the final conference, in which local authorities, citizens and civil society organizations have participated have emerged practical guidelines to enhance transparency and good governance of local authorities and was created basis for more active involvement of citizens in decision-making at the local level.
