Refugees, Migrants & IDP Program

Repatriation, Reconciliation and Reintegration are the pillars of ADI’s Refugees, Migrants and IDP Program. Since our founding we have worked to resolve the vulnerable and precarious position that many refugees, migrants and IDPs have found themselves after the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia and recent ethnic conflicts.

The ramifications of these events continue to create obstacles for these individuals from enjoying the same rights as citizens and accessing particular civic, political, economic, social and cultural rights. Through advocacy and continuous legal analyses ADI works to improve the day-to-day lives, and protect the rights of refugees, migrants and IDPs. In so doing, ADI hopes to resolve their insecure position and include the concerns of refugees, migrants and IDPs in the political, social, economic and cultural development of the countries of South East Europe.

ADI’s activities within its Refugees, Migrants and IDP Program are to pursue legal analyses and advocacy as a partner in the Legal Issues Group (LIG). LIG prepares publications that illustrate the gaps between national legislation and international standards, as well as promote regional legal harmonization through national legislative improvements. The LIG also collects information about the scale of the refugee, migrant and IDP situation in South East Europe and advocates and disseminates relevant reports, documents and books from LIG’s research to national and international institutions concerned with refugee, migrant and IDP issues.
In pursuit of this program’s goals, ADI is a founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the South East European Refugee Assistance Network (SEE-RAN) and a member of the European Committee on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE).
