Education & Youth Program

Education is a human right! It is also one of the most productive and meaningful ways to produce a generation of informed individuals committed to democracy and positive social change. Education can provide the knowledge and understanding of different cultures and the tools to create change through sustainable and peaceful means. Throughout ADI’s history we have implemented numerous education projects, which build capacity for citizens, civil society, and youth and thereby promote peace and stability in the region. By committing to the four pillars of education (Learning to live together, learning to acquire knowledge, learning to act, and learning for life) ADI continues to advance human development in Macedonia and Southeast Europe by training informed socially responsible citizens. In particular, ADI believes in the power of young people to learn and make a significant difference in the world, therefore many of our education projects are targeted to youth.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. — Nelson Mandela<br />

ADI’s activities within the Education and Youth Program involve translating, publishing and disseminating micro-studies and educational materials, which help keep citizens informed of major economic, social and political developments. Furthermore, with respect to the promotion of inter-ethnic cooperation and intercultural learning ADI has initiated several projects that promote the similarities between the various ethnic groups in Macedonia (Macedonian, Albanian, Roma, Serb, Turkish, and Vlach populations) in order to combat the perceived differences that divide the communities and illustrate common cultural traditions and history shared by those residing in Macedonia.

The youth program aims to involve the young generation in activities that interest them, such as sports, foreign languages, computers, music, and art with the aim of initiating and cultivating feelings of friendship, social life, diversity, inter-ethnic tolerance and creativity. The program is developed in two directions. First, the educational component provides youth with classes in foreign languages, computers, social skills and has opportunities for cultural exchanges. Second, the psychosocial component organizes youth activities from the psychosocial field, as well as art, sport, music, theatre and other activities.
